The leaves are alternate, lanceolate to ovate in shape, with serrated margins. They are often hairy and have prominent veins. The flowers are small, yellow, and five-petaled, with a prominent central column of stamens. They are borne in clusters in the leaf axils or at the ends of branches. The fruit is a capsule containing numerous small seeds.
